Hospital Liaison

The Hospital Liaison serves as a link between the medical hospital and the mental health center. They can be employed in a variety of different settings but are primarily focused, at this time, on coordinating care of individuals who are in the Emergency Center. The hospital liaison brings the perspective and resources of the mental health center to the general hospital, ensuring that the treatment is provided in the most effective and efficient manner.

The Hospital Liaison Team provides evaluation and triage services to patients within the Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center catchment area of Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties. Our team strives to ensure the well-being of every patient by recognizing the importance of coordination between the hospital and mental health center to promote healing and wellness.

Physical health and mental health are inextricably linked. Poor physical health is a major risk factor for poor mental health, and equally, poor mental health is a major risk for poor physical health. Despite this pervasive interplay, services for mental and physical health are largely created, funded and provided in separate organizations.

In partnership with the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS), the SRHS has a dedicated Mental Health Liaison to provide training and education, and facilitate a collaborative approach to addressing the needs of those with mental illness. Through the Mental Health Liaison professional, the SRHS and SAMHC are working together to reduce the amount of time spent in the Emergency Center at Spartanburg Medical Center and ensure that the treatment they receive at both facilities is collaborative and achieves maximal benefit.
